A LEIGH chippy is celebrating more success after bagging the award for ‘Best Chip-Shop Chips’ for the second year running.

Pennington Plaice on Leigh Road was voted winner of the best chippy chips category for the North West, as well as coming third nationwide in the annual Choice Chip Awards 2015.

Owner, Martin Gee, 42, took over the chippy three years ago, and has since made his mark, showcasing the establishment’s high standards of food.

Martin said: “This is really fantastic for us. It confirms that what we are doing is great and that the customers enjoy our food.

The potato professional even divulged his secret of how to make the perfect chippy chip.

“It’s all about the ingredients,” said Martin, “The quality of the potatoes and the oil is paramount. Every single aspect of the process counts when you’re making the perfect chippy chip.”
