THE inquest has opened into the suspicious death of a Leigh man.

Derek Alexander Szostok was found collapsed at an address in Moresby Close in the early hours of August 26 last year.

He was taken to hospital but doctors were unable to save him and he died four days later. An autopsy concluded that the 62-year-old died from an injury called a flexation of the neck.

William Lynch, 41, of Morseby Close, has since been charged with Mr Szostok’s manslaughter and has been remanded in custody.

He is due to enter a plea at a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on January 15.

A trial date has previously been fixed for February 23.

The inquest into Mr Szostok’s death was opened at Bolton Coroner’s Court this week and then adjourned to a date yet to be set pending the criminal proceedings and the preparation of reports.
