A POPULAR folk musician’s band will play a night of Lancashire tunes and humour to raise money for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Guitarist, accordion and banjo player Des Cooney’s four-piece group Calico will take to the stage at St Joseph’s Hall in Leigh for the concert because people they know have been helped by the charity.

The band, which has Steve Eckersley on guitar, Pauline Dowsett on vocals and Julie Houlton on guitar, keyboards and whistle, will play in the Mather oom on Saturday (May 12).

Des said: “We’re not really bothered about doing concerts for money these days, we would rather do something that will benefit worthwhile organisations like the hospice.

“When I went to visit a relative in the Hospice I was really impressed with how people were treated there, especially as so many of the staff are volunteers.”

Tickets are £8 including refreshments.
