AN ATHERTON woman was the official hero of Run the Flash 5k at the weekend after completing the course without her wig and raising over £1,000 for charity.
Hayley Blackburn (pictured left), who suffers from Alopecia, took part in the Women’s Only 5k fun run on Saturday (August 11) without her wig to help raise vital funds for Bebold Alopecia Awareness.
The 28-year-old who works for Lanzarote sports and active holiday resort Club La Santa, based in Walkden was supported on her run by fellow Club La Santa girls, friends and family including her sisters Kelly and Fay.
She said: “It was such an amazing day, I was nervous and emotional at the beginning but once I’d started walking I felt a little more relaxed and really enjoyed myself, and I’d definitely do something like this again.”
After completing the race Hayley was presented with a bunch of flowers and a Hero of the Day trophy in appreciation of her fund raising efforts and bravery.
Hayley added: “Having the support of my friends and family was amazing and I couldn’t have done it without them. My original fund raising target was £750 so to have raised over £1,000 is unbelievable.”
Diagnosed with Alopecia in 2007, Hayley also helps run a support group in Salford, offering help and support to people affected by Alopecia.
