A TEAM of golfers are celebrating after securing a prestigious title for the first time in more than 15 years.
The ladies team at Leigh Golf Club won the Ladies District Championship on their home fairways and greens, taking the overall prize in the 36-hole nett cup and coming second in the gross competition.
The seven-strong team were led by lady captain Janina Travers, who also took the prize for the lowest 36-hole nett score as well as carding the lowest nett score in the afternoon round.
The victory was the Leigh Golf Club ladies’ first in the district championship since 1996.
The club put a big effort into hosting the prestigious contest on the course in Culcheth, with bright pink golf holes on the greens matching the colours of the Leigh team.
Lady captain Janina Travers said: “I am so proud to be part of this winning team. The script couldn’t have been written more perfectly.
“It really is a wonderful achievement by the club and the team. We all pulled together and I feel we repaid everyone for the supreme effort that has been made to make the event one to stay in our memories for a long time.”
