Ladies who Lunch leaving for their trip

Golborne-based friendship group, The Ladies Who Lunch, this week visited the Merseyside Fire and Rescue museum, followed by a fire fighting display and a luncheon at the service’s Training and Development Academy in Croxteth.

The Ladies, whose usual base is at Room Four on Legh Street, Golborne, had been invited to watch a passing out parade of the Beacon Project, by the scheme’s co-ordinator Susi Tozi. The project is a course offered to young people who have issues to overcome in their lives, where they are mentored by members of the Fire Service and the Police Service in Merseyside.

Having been referred by various schools, over a 12-week period they are taught team work and fire fighting skills.

The ladies were shown a slideshow of firefighting past and present, before being allowed to try on items of uniform.
