Delivery driver is mugged

A CHICKEN delivery driver was knocked to the ground and mugged by a robber outside a bakery in Wigan.

The 44-year-old male driver was delivering a supply of chicken to Dawson’s Bakery, in Shuttle Street, Tyldesley, just before 12.30pm, when a man walked up to him from the front of the van and demanded his keys.

The driver refused so the robber pushed him to the ground, demanded money and threatened to beat him up.

He handed over cash, the robber ran off and the driver got up and chased after him.

The robber got into the passenger side of a rusty white Mercedes Sprinter van, which drove off towards Union Street and turned right onto Ellesmere Street.

A substantial amount of cash was taken in the robbery.

The robber is described as a white man in his late 20s, 6ft tall, of stocky build.

He had short fair hair, stubble and spoke with a mild Liverpudlian accent. He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans, scruffy trainers and a black bobble hat with a peak.

DC Andy Doran, based at Wigan CID, said: “It is horrible that this man had his honest day’s work ruined by someone determined to take what wasn’t theirs.

“We are working hard to find the robber and would like the public’s help.

“If you saw something, remember the van or know anything that might help us, please contact us.”
