Cyclist seriously injured

A WOMAN cyclist is fighting for life after she was hit by a car on a busy main road.

The 35-year-old woman was cycling along the A580 East Lancs Road eastbound near to Newton Lane in Golborne, when she collided with a Vauxhall Vectra at 7.45am on Monday.

She suffered a serious head and neck injury and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Junction 23 of the M6 was closed for a short period but has since been reopened.

Police Constable Stephen Dunning said: “If anyone witnessed the incident on the A580 that has left a 35-year-old woman seriously ill in hospital, then please get in touch with us.

“We are carrying out an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding this collision.”
