A MOTORIST caught driving without insurance has had his licence endorsed with six penalty points.
But magistrates waived any fine against Daniel Ashurst after he told them that he genuinely believed he was covered.
Wigan Magistrates’ Court heard how the 24-year-old, of Sherborne Avenue, Leigh who subsequently pleaded guilty by post, was stopped by police driving a blue Ford Fiesta along Westleigh Lane, Leigh, on July 11.
He told officers that he was renting the car and had been given assurances that he was insured to drive it and was a named driver on another vehicle.
Magistrates endorsed Ashurst’s licence with six penalty points and ordered him to pay £35 towards court costs - but did not issue a fine.
