If there’s one thing the SEAT Copa does very well, it’s melding high-tech equipment with an enjoyably naughty old-school feel.

You won’t need to consult an iPhone app to find out how to start and drive the thing or adjust the seats or pair your phone with it. This common sense intuition to the controls serves it extremely well and breaks down the technical barriers that are often part and parcel of a new car.

The Copa S model builds on the decent specification of the Leon S, adding dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, front seat height and lumbar adjustment, cruise control and some bespoke Copa upholstery. Plump for the Copa SE and this features rear parking sensors, light and rain sensors, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, that custom Copa fabric and SEAT’s Media System.

The media system is almost worth springing the extra for alone. It bundles up not only a very slick touch screen satellite navigation technology with 3D mapping but also dynamic route guidance, an SD card slot for MP3 playback, DAB radio tuner and Bluetooth audio streaming connectivity SEAT.

Offering extremely good value, a decent diesel engine and a standout petrol powerplant, the SEAT Leon Copa is a strong package. Yes, there are rivals that feel plusher inside and there are some that offer a fresher shape, but the Leon’s styling still looks great and it offers a spirited drive, especially if you choose the effervescent 1.2 TSI engine. It’s hard to find a better value family car that serves up this much fun.
