A LEIGH businesswoman who won an award in a prestigious local competition has now set her sights on national accolades.

Mandy Summerscales, owner of ladies’ clothes boutique Fashion PA in Leigh, will contest the Entrepreneur of the Year category in the Chamber Awards 2012, Britain’s biggest celebration of retail and business excellence.

Mandy was advised to enter the competition after scooping the entrepreneur’s prize at last year’s Wigan Business Awards, and will have to impress the regional judges enough to make it through to the national final in November.

The overall winner, who will scoop a prize of around £25,000, will be announced at a glittering awards dinner in London.

Mandy, 39, opened her own store, on Bradshawgate, in 2010 after working her way through the ranks of the clothes industry, including spending time at Next and working as PA to the fashion director of Littlewoods.

She said: “I won the entrepreneur award there and I got a call from the chamber to say they thought I should apply for the British awards. At first I wasn’t sure about it, but they convinced me I should have a go. Since then it’s just been unbelievable, it’s been great for the business.”

Mandy will launch a website and is introducing new ranges which have not been sold in the North West before.
