A MAN was stabbed four times by a burglar who broke into his Wigan home.
The 62-year-old man is now receiving treatment in hospital after the attack, which took place in Diamond Street, Leigh, at 5.30pm on Sunday.
The victim heard a knock on the door and went to answer it. He was then confronted by the burglar, who forced his way in and stabbed the victim four times in the back and chest areas with some sort of blade. After snatching the victim’s wallet from his pocket, the thief then fled. The offender is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall, in his 30s, and said to have a scruffy appearance and may have taken drugs. Police are now appealing to anyone with information about the incident to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Detective Inspector Martin Reddington said: “Thankfully, the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.
“This man’s injuries could have been far worse and possibly even fatal given that he was stabbed up to four times. I would appeal to anyone who has information, or perhaps suspects who the offender may be, to come forward with what you know. There will be a large police presence in the area in the coming days. We do not want people to panic but it is right people take precautions at this time.”
