A STRONG sense of community is what keeps businesses in Heath Street, Golborne going strong.
Local traders in the area say that residents as well as businesses all support the area as much as they can.
And one business owner who knows this more than most is Marie Hurst, owner of H Primblett bakery and delicatessen.
She has owned the business for seven years, but has worked there for 14.
She said: “We try and keep everything we do as local as possible. We get a lot of our meats for our home made pies and cooked meats from the butchers around the corner and we also supply our pies to a local company as well.
“This is the way with a lot of things in Golborne - people like to support local community, which is great.
“We’ve had customers coming to us for years and they come in every single day for a pie.
“We make all our pies here in the bakery as well as cooking all our meat here as well, which people really like because they know they are getting a quality product.
“Customers also like that we are a family run business, my son and daughter both work here and my mum also makes cakes that we sell as well as coming in to help out in the shop whenever she can.”
Alison Lomas, of Floral Design, knows Golborne well and that has served her business well over the years.
She set up in the same unit 26 years ago and has been happily trading ever since.
She said: “I have a lot of regulars because I have been here for so long and many of my customers come in for a chat as much as they come in to buy flowers.
“I know a lot of people from around the town and it is lovely to see your customers through the years as in many cases they will keep coming back to you for every occasion.
“You will see children come in as babies and will see them right up to when they get married, which is lovely.
“To keep a business like this going for so long it is important to keep one step ahead of the trends and offer the highest quality product and service that you can, because there is a lot of competition out there.”
Jane McWhan and Lyn Brunt have worked at Memory Lane Coaches for many of its 30 years.
Lyn Said: “Things have gone online a lot more in recent years but we still have a lot of regular customers who come back time and time again.”
Jane added: “Because we have been based here for so long people know our reputation and the quality service that we offer, which keeps them coming back to us.”
