WRESTLING fans are in for a treat when a former WWE star rocks up to the borough this month.
Robbie Brookside will fight up-and-coming Jack Gallagher on August 24 at the Rose Club in Hindley in the latest of the GP Wrestling series of shows.
The Liverpudlian is a well-known name in wrestling circles, enjoying a career just shy of 30 years. He’s fought in this area on a number of occasions and is looking forward to his return in a fortnight’s time.
One of his biggest bouts came when he had a dark match on World Wrestling Entertainment’s Raw show in 2005.
And the 46-year-old says he is relishing his return to Wigan, where he has enjoyed a number of appearances.
“It should be a good one,” said Robbie. “I’m considered to be one of the old veterans these days! GPW approached me and said they want me to wrestle with one of their trialists Jack Gallagher. I’m really looking forward to it, I’ve been to Wigan before and it’s a really good place for wrestling with some top coaches like Roy Wood.”
In fact, Robbie’s 22-year-old opponent Jack is a regular attendee at Roy’s Aspull gym and has taken a lot on board from the Wigan coach.
Jack is less than half the age of his opponent and believes fans will be in for a great night of entertainment, which will feature fights from other people across the borough on the undercard.
He said: “I really enjoy the old-school style of wrestling, as he does, so I’m expecting it to be a great night of entertainment. I have trained up at Aspull with Roy Wood and he is one of the best in the business.”
Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £8 per person, or £27 for a family of four, call 07703 312 146.
