NHS campaign goes on

CAMPAIGNERS against changes to the NHS are holding a meeting in Wigan next week.

Wigan & Leigh Save Our NHS is holding the meeting following the third reading of Health Secretary Andrew Lansley’s Health & Social Care Bill in the House of Lords last week.

The group’s secretary Ian Heyes said: “Aneurin Bevan, the Secretary of State for Health in Labour’s immediate post war Government responsible for the creation for the NHS once said that the NHS will last for as long as there are folk left with the faith to fight for it and we very much have such a faith. Though our cause, backed by the BMA, RCN, numerous other health service professional associations, all the NHS unions and a majority, we believe, of the British public, suffered a significant set back last week in the House of Lords, we will be meeting next to discuss what we might do to step our fight.”

The meeting will take place at The Orwell, Wigan Pier on Thursday October 27 at 7.30pm.
