A GOLBORNE pub is going the extra mile to ensure its contribution to a charity campaign is the biggest around this week.
The Millstone is laying on a spectacular 12-hour entertainment marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fund-raising campaign.
However, while schools and community groups all over the country will be having coffee and cakes to raise money, The Millstone will make that just one part of an ambitious all-day fund-raiser with a packed line-up of events.
There will be bingo, raffles, cake stalls and other activities throughout the day, while music will be provided by a live piano player, before the evening entertainment adds a touch of rock ‘n’ roll to proceedings with four bands taking to the pub’s stage.
The music will feature a comeback gig from Social Icons, who opened Haigh Fest in 2010 but will be playing their first gig since re-forming following a hiatus, while The Hermitage will look to add to their rapidly growing fanbase when they open the evening.
Local band Wolf will continue the party with a set of high-tempo classic rock covers and old favourites, before The Articles will bring the fund-raiser to a close with a mix of original songs and upbeat versions of pop tunes.
The Millstone has an active history of raising money for good causes, including launching the three-day Millstone Rocks Festival in 2011 to provide money for Help for Heroes and Brain Tumour UK.
